1. Shah Rukh Khan Gets Clean Chit in Wankhede Stadium Brawl Incident

It has been five years since the name of the King of Bollywood was sullied at a brawl at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium, where it was alleged that post a Kolkata Knight Riders victory during IPL 2012, Khan lost his temper and used abusive language against security personnel of the stadium.

The Mumbai Police on Tuesday cleared Khan’s name and also took the matter to a metropolitan magistrate’s court clarifying that no ‘cognisable offence’ was registered against Khan following the brawl.

After the investigation, it was found that no cognisable offence had taken place.

Shah Rukh's Version of the Story

Amit Maru, complainant and local activist, filed a private complaint in the magistrate’s court seeking action against the actor for the incident. The Mumbai Police, replying to the complaint, recorded Khan’s response denying the allegations, and filed the same as a report in court.

According to Khan, at the night in question, Kolkata Knight Riders had just won a match when his friends and children ran into the ground following which they were asked to leave by security guard Vikas Dalvi. Khan then informed Dalvi that the children were with him, and were not to be touched which is when Khan’s business manager escorted the children out.

The superstar insists that he only got angry when he was spoken to in indecent language during the chaos after the match.

Maru had earlier filed a petition in 2008 against the actor in the high court, but the court ruled in the actor’s favour as well. Khan believes the only reason Maru is bringing the issue up again is for publicity.

Khan lived out a five-year ban imposed on him by the Mumbai Cricket Association, which was only lifted last year.

2. Sexism In Bollywood Is Disgusting: Sonam Kapoor Takes A Pay Cut

In an interview with Film Companion, Sonam Kapoor admitted that despite having films like Neerja, Khoobsurat, Raanjhanaa to her credit, Veere Di Wedding is not getting the kind of budget she had initially wanted. The film has an all female star cast including Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhaskar.

It’s a patriarchal society, there’s a lot of sexism and it’s disgusting. Still as a woman in this industry, I don’t get my price. I’m still having difficulties getting projects off the floor for the budgets that I need to shoot. My sister was like, ‘What does my sister have to do? How much money do her films have to make? How many hits does she need to give for you guys to think that she needs more than 15 crore to make a film?’

The actress spoke at length about the wide pay gap between male and female actors in the film industry.

The kind of money John Abraham and Varun Dhawan got to make off Dishoom is way more than what Kareena and I are getting to make Veere Di Wedding. I do think Kareena and I could open a film as big as them. And we could do as well as them. Veere Di Wedding is a commercial film. I find it really disgusting that this is happening.
Sonam Kapoor

She also spoke about how Kareena Kapoor Khan and she had to make a pay cut because of their “okay” budget in Veere Di Wedding.

We are making Veere and we are getting an okay budget, but we are not getting what we want. I have to cut my fee, and Bebo has to cut her fee to get this film there. The film is not as elaborate as we imagined. It is sad and heartbreaking. We need to work extra hard to make it look a certain way.

In the google search results for Radhika Apte’s film Parched, along with the film’s trailer and reviews, there’s one thing that stands out more than anything else.

You’ll find headlines screaming “Steamy, sexy scene”, “Radhika Apte naked”, and “Radhika Apte hot nude scene”.

Parched is an important film about female friendships, sexual agency and women’s sexual freedom. But a little before the film’s release, it came to be known for the leaked scenes that featured Apte in a love-making scene with her co-star Adil Hussain.

At a recent interview however, Apte put her foot down and refused to be shamed about her work by a reporter.

The reporter asked her: “Is it necessary to be controversial or become bold to be successful?”

And in three crisp quotes, Apte showed the reporter his place.

4. From Bad to Breaking Bad: Emraan Hashmi Like You’ve Never Seen Him

Emraan Hashmi seems to have had a lot of fun doing this photoshoot with FHM. For the magazine’s latest issue, the actor journeyed to his darker side and posed as some of Hollywood’s iconic baddies - The Joker, Hannibal Lecter and what we think was the best of the lot - Heisenberg from the hit series Breaking Bad.

Wish Emraan got as wacky with his choices in Bollywood too. Take a look at the pics below:

5. Mira Nair Gives Hollywood A Black Canvas With ‘Queen Of Katwe’

Mira Nair’s Queen Of Katwe echoes the thought behind MS Dhoni: The Untold Story- ‘you can do big things even if you’re from a small place’. The trailer of this Disney production is a touching story of a young girl’s journey from selling corn on the streets of Katwe, Uganda to becoming an international chess champion. Mira Nair brings her signature Monsoon Wedding and Namesakeflair to tell another sensitive story, but this time on an African canvas.

The film is based on the life and achievements of Phiona Mutesi, a young chess prodigy who emerged from a slum in Uganda and makes it big in the world. Interestingly, Madina Nalwanga, who plays Phiona on screen, has actually lived the hardships of her character’s life. Being a teenager from Kampala, a Ugandan slum, she was already half her on-screen character when she was chosen for auditions. Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong'o plays her mother in the Mira Nair film.

This has been by far the most positive experience [in Hollywood]. They have respected and embraced and accepted the maverick. I am most at home being allowed to do what I do: ‘Monsoon Wedding,’ ‘The Namesake,’ ‘Mississippi Masala.’ I am ‘Queen of Katwe’. These worlds I know how to tell in a way that no one else can tell, if you let me. I like to create an environment where no one needs to allow me. I can do it myself.
Mira Nair (as reported by Indiewire)

Queen Of Katwe is also a story of Hollywood opening up to real stories and colour. And Nair feels at home telling the story of an unconventional African queen. The film hits theatres in India on 7 October and released across 1300 screens in the US on 30 September.
