It’s Mumbai calling for U2 as the Irish rock band will be performing in India for the first time this December.

The band is set to bring their acclaimed The Joshua Tree Tour celebrating the band's 1987 album of the same name to Mumbai on Sunday 15 December. It will be the final stop of the international tour.

The band made the surprising announcement early on Wednesday morning, 18 September by sharing a video on their Instagram. In the post, band members Bono and The Edge are seen discussing their plans for the show, with the lead singer declaring it “one of the greatest nights of my life” and promising a “transcendent moment in the history of rock n roll.”

The band’s page captioned the video with, “'Bono, what are you doing on December 15th 2019?' First ever @U2 show in India that's what, as The Joshua Tree Tour 2019 heads to Mumbai. Presales from next Tuesday, September 24.”

U2 comprises frontman Bono, guitarist the Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. "Mumbai is the perfect city to end our JT 2019 tour. We are very excited to see you there," said Mullen.

“We are very much looking forward to bringing a dash of Dublin to Mumbai, India. A country famous for its rich culture of art, music, movies, theatre, literature, food and so much more. There is a lot of excitement in the U2 camp,”
Adam Clayton

"Mumbai. Let's rock the house," Bono said.

“We have been around the world with The Joshua Tree and we can’t think of a better place to celebrate the end of this tour. Mumbai, India, we’re coming for you, I hope you’re ready.”
The Edge

With the Joshua Tree Tour 2019, the band will also be performing in Singapore, Seoul and Manila for the first time ever.

The concert in Mumbai is produced by Live Nation Global Touring and brought to India by BookMyShow. It will be held at DY Patil Stadium.
