Asha Bhosle Lends Her Voice to ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ Song ‘Aasmaa’
The makers of Saand Ki Aankh dropped a new song from the album, titled Aasmaa, and it has been sung by Asha Bhosle. Starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar, the song follows the trials and tribulations their characters face as they prepare their girls for sharpshooting.
The track traces the journey of their daughters entering the sports academy for their training and winning a gold eventually. Composed by Vishal Mishra, the song marks the comeback of Asha Bhosle after almost a decade. Take a look:
Earlier, another song titled ‘Womaniya’ from the film had been released. From the get go, ‘Womaniya’ echoes the film’s underlying sentiment i.e. female strength. It begins with both Bhumi and Taapsee as they sit on a cot and talk about the being a woman in a man’s world. The visuals then feature younger versions of the characters as they groove to the peppy track. Both don incredibly vibrant outfits. Saand Ki Aankh was originally supposed to be titled ‘Womaniya’. However, due to legal issues, the makers were unable to acquire rights for the name.
Saand Ki Aankh is the story of two octogenarian sharpshooters Chandro Tomar and her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar, who made made history by becoming the world’s oldest and second-oldest sharpshooters, respectively. The two started learning how to shoot in 1999-2000 when they were in their 60s. Together, they have won over 50 national championships and have gone on to train many shooters in the last decade and a half.
After the release of the trailer, there was much talk about how the casting of young women for the role of aged characters.
