After gracing the Malayalam film industry for almost three decades, superstar Mohanlal has reportedly expressed his plan to retire after completing one last mammoth project.

According to a report in Manorama, the actor said he would be wrapping up his on-screen stint in a few years, after completing Randamoozhan, an ambitious project being made for a mega budget of Rs 600 Crore. The project is likely to take off sometime next year and will reportedly be based on a novel by the same title, written by M T Vasudevan Nair. The story apparently depicts a glimpse of the Mahabharata from Bhima’s perspective.

In the three decades of his career, Mohanlal has done more than 300 Malayalam projects, as well as a few flicks in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. The 56-year-old Padma Shri awardee has also bagged four National Film Awards and multiple state and international awards for his contribution to cinema.

With Pulimurgan (2016) turning out to be the greatest film of his career and the Mollywood box-office, here’s hoping that his last project will shatter all previous his records. But before the mega budget finale, Mohanlal will reportedly be playing the lead in B Unnikrishnan directorial debut. While that is likely to hit theatres in May 2017, the veteran actor is currently busy shooting the war movie 1971– Beyond Borders, which is a part of Mohanlal’s Major Mahadevan series. The film is based on the true events of the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
