There’s A Lot More To Katrina In ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ Than Her Abs
Katrina Kaif’s acting lessons for her role in ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ seem to have worked wonders for her.
The minute the trailer of Baar Baar Dekho hit the internet, the virtual world went ballistic over Katrina Kaif’s abs. But if you thought that’s all there is to Kat, Baar Baar Dekho will make you think again.
Though Nitya Mehra’s sob fest made me snooze away discreetly under my Kala Chasma, I woke up to Katrina’s performance. Strange isn’t it? I thought so too. While most of us had bet our money on Sidharth Malhotra, his disappointing performance even made Katrina stand out. I was left wondering why debutant director Nitya Mehra decided to let Sid shoulder such an intense character? Probably because after Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan walked away from the script, she wasn’t left with much choice. But Katrina in comparison to Sidharth, I must say, fares surprisingly well here. In fact how I wish now that she’d done these acting workshops with Atul Mongia 13 years ago, when she first arrived in Bollywood.
Probably all my films required me to do acting workshops but this was the first film for which I did extensive workshops. I don’t know if I found a difference as an actor, as that is for everyone else to judge. But I found the experience very helpful as an actor. When we started in the industry, we didn’t have scripts, let alone workshops. I didn’t have a script while shooting Partner. I would literally go to David ji and ask him for my lines, because I knew if I didn’t have them five minutes before, I wouldn’t be able to say them. He would say, ‘Ya! Wait wait they are coming’. I remember on the first day of the workshop, Nitya and Atul after watching a scene would go in a corner to discuss how we performed. I think they were thinking of a way to politely tell us about how bad we were. But honestly while shooting I felt like someone has showed me a path and now I just have to follow it.Katrina Kaif, Actor ( Source: Film Companion)
I agree with Katrina, well somewhat. According to Kat, Diya Kapoor seems to be a character that’s quite close to her real life persona, and that’s probably why she managed to hit the nail on its head. In the film, she plans the whole wedding with her childhood boyfriend Jay, and he literally dumps her in the middle of it all. She’s hurt, but eventually soldiers on.
Diya is shattered and buries her ego inside, to emote the broken pieces of her heart. Her hope and faith in the man she loves crumbles right in front of her eyes and there’s no fixing that. You catch her with mixed emotions, and it makes you want to give her a big hug.
Funnily enough, who could’ve imagined that Katrina Kaif of all actors, would be able to pull off a scene which requires her to be vulnerable? I am pleasantly surprised to be honest. Baar Baar Dekho does not really do justice to its title, but somewhere in Jay and Diya’s world, Katrina manages to brighten this dull saga, that no one is watching baar baar for sure.
Even though the irony of Baar Baar Dekho’s title is hard to ignore, I think the acting workshops did Katrina some good. If she carries on this new path of ‘acting’ there’s a chance she’ll be referred to as a lot more than just ‘a hardworking girl’ on the next season of Koffee With Karan.
I am ready to give Katrina Kaif a big fat sloppy joe or a juicy mango, to make up for her attempt at acting and her midriff.
