Ram Gopal Varma to Make His Acting Debut With ‘Cobra’

The film will be made in Hindi and Telugu.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma will make his acting debut in his upcoming bilingual project Cobra, which he will also co-direct with Agasthya Manju. He took to Twitter to make the announcement which coincided with his 57th birthday. “Ahem! On the occasion of my birthday today, I am debuting as actor for the first time in my career. I wouldn't mind if you don't bless me. Thanks," he tweeted with a poster from the film featuring him in character.

Ram Gopal Varma plays an intelligence officer who goes by the moniker ‘R’ in Cobra. The poster mentions that the film is “a biopic of the most dangerous criminal ever”. In another tweet the director elaborated that Cobra is a rowdy who became a naxalite, later an agent for the police and finally a notorious gangster who ruled in anonymity.

The film also stars debutant KG and Ranga Rao and will be made in Hindi and Telugu.

Amitabh Bachchan, who has worked with Ram Gopal Varma on films like Sarkar and Nishabd, welcomed him into the world of acting. "Finally! Ram Gopal Varma, the 'Sarkar' finds his true vocation... Acting! All the best Sircar. Damn, another competition," he wrote in a tweet.

The announcement comes a week after the release of Lakshmi NTR, RGV's film on actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao and his wife Lakshmi Parvathi.
