MAMI 2019: Bombay Rose, About Love Among 10 Films in Competition

10 films have been nominated in the India Gold competition section at MAMI 2019.

Jio MAMI 21st Mumbai Film Festival announced the nominations for its India Gold section - the competition category for the latest Indian films from across the country. Ten films made it to the nominations this year from languages like Pahari, Maithili, Assamese, Nepali, Hindustani, and Bengali.

Three films in this section will have their world premiere at MAMI - Pushpendra Singh’s Pearl of the Desert (Maru ro Moti), Achal Mishra’s Gamak Ghar and Saurav Rai’s Invitation (Nimtoh).

There will six India premieres - Gitanjali Rao’s Bombay Rose, which recently had its world premiere at Venice Film Festival (Critics’ Week), and Kislay’s Just Liked That (Aise Hi), among others.

Bhaskar Hazarika’s Ravening (Aamis) will have its Asia Premiere at the section (the film’s world premiere happened at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year). Archana Atul Phadke’s Marathi documentary, About Love, and Prateek VatsEeb Allay Ooo! will premiere at the festival.

The Jio MAMI 21st Mumbai Film Festival will be held from 17 October to 24 October, 2019.

Director of About Love, Archana Atul Phadke said that she had tried to send her earlier films to MAMI’s India Gold section for the last four years, but her films didn’t make it, so she thrilled to come back to the festival with documentary.

“Year and again, we would apply to the festival and come back with our films. Four years after our last film Placebo, we are very excited to bring the story of home, with About Love, to my hometown at MAMI 2019,” she said.

The Jio MAMI 21st Mumbai Film Festival with Star will be held from 17 October to 24 October.
