House of Cards, the popular Netflix show featuring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright will back for season six, however, the series will continue without its leading man Spacey. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos gave out the good news at UBS’s Global Media and Communications Conference in New York.
There were reports earlier that Netflix had pulled the plug on the show following multiple allegations of sexual assault against Spacey. As per reports, shooting for the sixth season will commence in January 2018 with some changes in the show’s structure.
House of Cards season six will only have eight episodes as against the regular 13, and the series will now centre around Robin Wright’s character - Claire Underwood. Sarandos added that continuing the show will allow for ongoing employment for around 2,000 people in the Baltimore area.
The sixth season of House of Cards will also be its final one.
According to a report in Vox, Netflix had stated that it would no longer air House of Cards if Spacey was a part of it, as the company could not fire the actor since it does not directly produce the series. It’s still not clear as to how Kevin Spacey’s character of Francis Underwood will be written out of the series. Will the producers kill off Underwood? Watch this space.
