Vir Das Travels From Leh to Mysore in Amazon’s New Travel Comedy
After his Netflix special Losing It, Vir Das will now be doing a travel comedy for Amazon Prime Video called Jestination Unknown. The show is an attempt to answer the question: “What does India find funny?” The clubs and pubs of India's metros are only a part of the answer. The people of India have laughed at kings, foreigners, neighbors, and more importantly, themselves. In a time when jokes are considered offensive, what if India answered otherwise?
Vir Das says in the trailer that the show is about taking stand-up comedy to places that nobody has seen it in. Watch the trailer below:
Vir tweeted about it and said, “We made a 'travel meets comedy' series! It goes from the top of India to the bottom, to find out what makes people laugh. Jestination Unknown will be out on Amazon Prime Video this Friday! Do save the date, and spread the word!”
Vir Das will be travelling across six cities in India, meeting new people who have their individual take on comedy. He will also be performing stand up gigs in each of these cities. The show also has a super that says ‘to offend the real Indian’.
The name of the show has actually been derived from the time when ‘jesters’ used to be used in courts to entertain kings. The idea of jesters was seeped in Indian culture at that point of time.
The show will stream on Amazon Prime Video, 18 October onwards.
Other than Losing It, Vir had also done another special for Netflix called Abroad Understanding and was also seen in the ABC web series Whiskey Cavaliar.
