As young Kashmiris are being targetted in the wake of the recent Pulwama terror attack, students from across the country stand united in their condemnation.
In one such alleged incident, a bunch of girls from Dolphin Institute in Dehradun claimed that their hostel was surrounded by a mob, who were threatening to attack them.
The Uttarakhand police, on the other hand, claimed that the incident was ‘blown out of proportion’.
At least two institutes in Dehradun have stated that they will not admit any student from Kashmir in the new academic session, reported The Indian Express. The fear and open threats also prompted several Kashmiri students to temporarily leave the city.
In an “undertaking” to the students’ union of the Dehradun-based DAV PG College — which, along with members of the ABVP, VHP, and Bajrang Dal, had led the protests outside colleges on Friday.
“We assure you that if any Kashmiri student is found engaged in any anti-national activity, then the student will be expelled from the institute.”Dr Aslam Siddiqui, Principal of Baba Farid Institute of Technology (BFIT) to The Indian Express
Students Condemn Attacks on Fellow Students
The Quint spoke with students from across the country who unequivocally condemned the attacks on Kashmiri students.
“Denying them admission would only lead to hatred towards our nation. It would make it easy for the terrorist organisations to manipulate the same minds and make them mark the path of terrorism. To quote Malala Yousafzai, ‘with weapons you can kill terrorists, with education you can kill terrorism’. So education should not be denied to anyone based on these things. Some students believe that education is the only tool that could eradicate the many problems faced by Kashmir.
“Kashmiri students need to study more. If we want development in Kashmir, if we wish to improve the situation there then education should proliferate even more there. The Pulwama terror attack on the CRPF convoy, on Thursday, 14 February, in which more than 40 jawans were martyred, has sent the country into shock.
There is still grief and outrage, and that has given rise to some controversies, some disagreements and some hostility; especially towards Kashmiri students.
