Three complaints lodged against Academy president, John Bailey.

The President of Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts and Science, John Bailey has reportedly been accused of sexual harassment. After receiving three complaints on 14 March, the Academy has launched an investigation against Bailey.

The Academy issues a statement:

“The Academy treats any complaints confidentially to protect all parties. The Membership Committee reviews all complaints brought against Academy members according to our Standards of Conduct process, and after completing reviews, reports to the Board of Governors. We will not comment further on such matters until the full review is completed.”

Bailey was elected president in August 2017 and if he is forced to step down, vice-president and veteran make-up artist, Lois Burwell would take over. The Academy, during Bailey’s tenure, has taken several measures to curb the practice of sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry.

According to a report in Variety, they expelled Harvey Weinstein less than 10 days after the news of sexual harassment was reported by The New York Times.

The Academy also took the decision to replace presenter at the Oscars, Casey Affleck because he settled two sexual harassment lawsuits in 2010. Not only this, they have also set up a committee to review, discipline or expel for abuse, harassment or discrimination.

Bailey, a cinematograher, has worked in films like The Big Chill and Groundhog Day.
