Five Filmi Jodis From the 90s We Would Love to See On Screen Again

They might be super stars of the 90s, but these five filmi couples can still rock the big screen.

Five Bollywood jodis that will still sizzle on screen

With Shah Rukh and Kajol riding on high expectations with their Dilwale comeback, it got us at The Quint thinking about other super hit star couples from the 90s, who we would absolutely love to watch getting back together on the big screen again. There are plenty of options to choose from, but the top five on our wishlist are as follows:

Anil & Madhuri

When Tezaab launched the Anil-Madhuri jodi, it was only inevitable that they would burn the screen for years to come. From the heaving chemistry in Tezaab, to the very-much-in-love couple who die in each other’s arms on their wedding night in Parinda, and even their fun romance in Ram Lakhan and Beta, both actors worked as a canvas for each other, giving us distinct characters and a sense of togetherness. In terms of dramatic heat, they still have it in them. Even if in senior roles, they should be seen together soon, for we are perennially nostalgic about the dhak dhak days.

Aamir & Juhi

In Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Aamir and Juhi had the right amount of innocence to portray Romeo and Juliet in the modern era. Their latter outings turned into hits as well as misses, but the allure of their coupling is particularly special to those of us who grew up in the 90s. Even their inconsequential pairing in the beginning of Andaz Apna Apna had a fun, endearing note to it. While Aamir continues to be a major star, his penchant for off-track stories can definitely accommodate Juhi in a role that can bring them back to us. Hurrah, already.

Akshay & Raveena

Remember Tip Tip Barsa Paani? Be it Mohra or any of the other films they did together, Akshay and Raveena had a strange animal chemistry. The tough khiladi found his match in the husky toned kitten, and the audience lapped them up. Bring to slow boil a romantic thriller, add a few sizzling tracks to taste, and the two will be raring to make their comeback.

Aishwarya & Salman

When Khan fell for Rai, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam benefitted from the union. A trailblazing romance that people couldn’t stop talking about, especially when their off-screen chemistry washed over their on-screen characters. The chemistry was palpable, Khan-Rai became the new Bollywood love, throbbing with an intensity seldom witnessed. But as luck would have it, they fell apart, controversy erupted, and the possibility of them being together again seems like a distant possibility. Bajirao Mastani would have featured Khan and Rai, instead of Ranveer and Deepika. But we are here to wish, so yes, bring them back, directors.

Govinda & Karisma

For all the zany comic timing of Govinda, it was the one and only Karisma Kapoor who had the gyrating smoothness to match steps with him. Together, they made joie de vivre out of camp, and rolled out back to back successes. Govinda never had the same zing with his other heroines. Both actors are in semi-retirement mode now. It’s high time old school favourites like David Dhawan or the new kids bring them back together, in all new laugh out loud glory.
