Even as many call for the film industry to boycott the 48th International film festival of India (IFFI) over recent controversies, Shah Rukh Khan inaugurated the festival in Goa midst much fanfare with Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani and Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar for company. Shahid Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Sridevi are among other dignitaries present.

2. Padmavati Controversy: Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar Blame Government

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi and renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar believe that it is the government’s incapacity to maintain law and order which has led to the Padmavati controversy becoming as problematic as it currently is.

In an interview with Rajdeep Sardesai, the duo stated that if the government had been upholding its promise to eradicate criminal elements from the different states of the country, they wouldn’t allow a Karni Sena or any other party placing a bounty on the head of certain members of the cast, or threatening to chop off Deepika Padukone’s nose, and maybe even take some strict action against the ones making these threats.

3. Admissions Open for Tiger Shroff’s ‘Student of the Year 2’

Tiger Shroff is going back to school with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year 2. The actor took to Twitter to release the first look of the film which is slated to release in 2018. Student of the Year 2 is being directed by Punit Malhotra.

4. SC Refuses to Interfere With ‘Padmavati’; Joshi All for Dialogue

There have been protests, assaults and debates. There have even been death threats on national television, following which the production house has “voluntarily” deferred the release of the already-much-maligned film Padmavati. But now, the Supreme Court has rejected a plea to stop the release of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, saying that it falls in the territory of the CBFC.

The court said, “We can’t interfere with CBFC’s work”.

5. Varun Dhawan, Sonam, Twinkle Khanna On ‘Padmavati’ Row

Bollywood’s silence over the Padmavati controversy during the last few months has been telling. Most of the film industry’s actors and filmmakers have chosen to not comment about the protests and ridiculous demand to ban the film. Varun Dhawan tweeted that he was shocked at the statement and went on to ask what the reaction to this offer would have been if it were for a sportsperson or businessman.
