Guess Where Ed Sheeran’s Blue Kurta Came From?
The blue kurta was inspired by his third studio album ‘Divide’, which released earlier this year.
When Ed Sheeran first walked onto stage at Mumbai for his ‘Divide’ concert, the immediate thing everybody noticed was the ferozi blue kurta he wore.
Not shorts, not an oversized jumper, but a blue kurta. And even if you weren’t at the venue catching his performance live, you could not have missed out on the bright kurta Sheeran decided to wear for his performance on Sunday evening.
Wonder Where He Got It From?
The blue kurta was gifted to Sheeran as part of a larger hamper from BookASmile, online ticket and event curator BookMyShow’s charity initiative.
Designed by BookASmile’s Farzana Cama Balpande, the dupion silk blue kurta was gifted to Sheeran just a few hours before he took to the stage.
Sheeran, who initially planned to wear something else for the performance, immediately took a liking to the kurta and decided to wear it for at least a part of his performance.
The kurta, which he paired with jeans, was inspired by his third studio album ‘Divide’, which released earlier this year. The kurta sports several Indian designs and also has ‘Divide’ written in Hindi at the back, all of which are hand-painted.
The kurta was part of a hamper which also included a flute, Sheeran’s favourite gingerbread cookies, a mug, Kolhapuri chhappals and several other goodies.
What Inspired Balpande to Design the Kurta?
Balpande had noticed that Sheeran had worn a kurta for his 2015 performance in India, incidentally his first in the country. That got Balpande designing a kurta that would match the theme of his ‘Divide’ album.
When we presented it to him, he was overjoyed and his reaction gave us hope that he may actually wear it for at least some part of his performance.Farzana Cama Balpande
“When Sheeran walked on to stage wearing the kurta, we were absolutely thrilled and honoured,” she added.
“While he loved the entire hamper, we know the kurta was very special to him.”
