Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Agent Ethan Hunt on the big screen with Mission Impossible 7 and 8. The two films from the popular franchise will premiere consecutively, the first in the summer of 2021 and the next in summer of 2022. The actor confirmed the news on social media.
The release of the films has been timed to avoid clashing with Cruise’s other big venture Top Gun: Maverick, which is scheduled for 2020. Filming is expected to commence later this year and both titles are likely to be shot back-to-back.
Christopher McQuarrie, who directed Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission Impossible: Fallout (2018), confirmed on Twitter that he will be back in the director’s chair for these two films. Reports suggest that the film’s studio Paramount Pictures made a decision to continue the franchise after Mission Impossible: Fallout grossed $790 million worldwide.
