Spider-Man will be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios patched up and announced a new deal on Friday 27 September. Kevin Feige will return to produce the third film in the Tom Holland Spider-Man series, which started with 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and continued with this summer mega-hit Spider-Man: Far From Home. Spider-Man will also appear in at least one other MCU film.
The new deal will give Marvel and its parent company Disney 25% of profits from the next sequel, which is set to release on 16 July 2021. Disney will also keep all merchandising rights for the character.

In August, news broke that Disney and Sony were unable to come at an agreement to renew their contract, with Sony scoffing at Disney’s demand for a 50% share in profits.
The MCU Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, was introduced in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War after a then-historic deal between Sony Pictures and Disney to share rights to the character. He has since played a major part in the crossover Avengers films apart from his solo series.
