Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame is now globally the second highest grossing film of all time with a collection of $2.189 billion. The film has raced past James Cameron’s Titanic (1997), which grossed $2.187 billion at that time. Accepting defeat, James Cameron on Thursday tweeted to everybody at Marvel, congratulating them for the film’s success.

“An iceberg sank the real titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my titanic”, wrote Cameron.

Avengers: Endgame just finished its second weekend having collected another $145.8 in the US and $282.2 overseas. The highest grosser of all time remains Cameron’s 2009 release Avatar, which collected $2.8 billion at the global box-office.

There are only five films that have passed the $2 billion milestone at the global box-office. Besides Avatar, Avengers: Endgame and Titanic, these include Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018).

In North America, Avengers: Endgame has hit the $620 million mark, making it the ninth all-time highest earner. Though it had a strong second weekend at the US box-office, it failed to reach the No.1 spot. Avengers: Endgame was second to The Force Awakens which earned $149.2 in its second week of release.
