Now, the buzz is that producer Ritesh Sidhwani and director Zoya Akhtar are planning a spin-off that will focus on MC Sher’s journey, Mumbai Mirror reported. “The film will delve deep into Siddhant Chaturvedi aka MC Sher’s journey, his struggles and how he attained fame,” a source told Mumbai Mirror.

The Zoya Akhtar directorial Gully Boy had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival on 9 February and has been receiving praise for sensitively shining a light on issues such as class, minorities and inequality. Ranveer Singh, who plays the lead in the film, and newcomer Siddhant Chaturvedi have especially been lauded for their performances. Earlier, Siddhant Chaturvedi had said in a statement that he has taken a vow to always handle his own social media. The actor had also recounted his strangest audition for the role of a stripper for an Aditya Dhar film, which never got made.

Loosely based on the lives of homegrown rappers Divine and Naezy, Gully Boy tells the story of Murad, an aspiring rapper from Mumbai’s slums who dreams of making it big and escaping his working class existence. It has been produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Productions.
