Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has been admitted to Mumbai's Nanavati hospital on Saturday evening. The actor took to Twitter to confirm he is COVID-19 positive. His son Abhishek Bachchan has also tested positive for coronavirus. He tweeted that both he and his father are in hospital.
In a statement, Nanavti hospital has confirmed that Amitabh Bachchan is stable and has mild symptoms.
The statement reads, "Mr Amitabh Bachchan is stable with mild symptoms and is currently admitted in the isolation unit at Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital, Mumbai. He has confirmed that he will keep updating via Twitter."
Maharashtra Minister of Public Health and Family Welfare took to Twitter to confirm the news. He also mentioned that family members Aishwarya Rai and Jaya Bachchan have also been tested for the novel coronavirus and their results will be out on Sunday.
Following this, Tope took to Twitter to confirm that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and daughter Aaradhya Abhishek Bachchan tested positive for COVID, while Jaya Bachchan tested negative.
However, the tweet has since been deleted.
Sources told The Quint that Amitabh's health can be a cause for concern.
Wishes for his speedy recovery have started pouring in.
On Sunday, Amitabh Bachchan's house was sanitised.
Amitabh was last seen in Shoojit Sircar's Gulabo Sitabo. The film was slated to release in the theatres but because of the coronavirus pandemic it premiered on Amazon Prime Video.
