On Sunday, Bollywood actors Sonam Kapoor and Anushka Sharma took to Instagram to bring attention to a certain incident of animal cruelty that occurred in Worli, Mumbai. The actors posted a photo of a dog who had been ruthlessly thrashed for seeking shelter in a Worli building as it was pouring outside. The dog was attacked by the security guards of the building on 24 July and received severe head and abdomen injuries.

“The inhumanity of this act is just unbelievable. This is the time for our community to step up and find a way to help get justice to a soul that can’t stand up for himself. If there is any way one can reach out to help, this is the time. 🙏🏻 Please swipe left for all the information,” Anushka wrote as the caption.

She also shared a small note with the photo which states that an FIR has been lodged against the people who beat up the dog. Currently, the dog is battling for its life.

Sonam Kapoor also took to Instagram to share a video of the dog writhing in pain.

She wrote, “Please help! An FIR has been registered with the Worli Police Station by Bombay Animal Rights on 27/7/19 as Nishank had stopped responding to all our calls All videos & evidence available & provided to the police We need help for this Pup from our animal welfare community. BOMBAY ANIMAL RIGHTS. 9920388000.”

Jacqueline Fernandez too shared the dog’s situation on her Instagram story. Tagging People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and wrote, “I want to see justice here.”

The incident occured after a certain resident, Mr Bhatia, of the building caught the stray dog trying to seek shelter and ordered the building watchmen to beat the dog up so as to teach him a lesson. The dog, named Lucky, is currently being medically treated by Crown Vet Clinic, after being admitted by an animal rights activist.

The FIR against those accused of the act has been lodged under sections 429 and 34 of the IPC as well as Prevention of Cruelty to Animals act. An investigative officer is carrying out further inquiry into the matter, reported Times of India.
