A French court has ordered Mallika Sherawat and her French husband Cyrille Auxenfans to be evicted from their luxury Paris apartment. According to AFP, the ruling was passed on December 14, by which the court told Sherawat to pay 78,787 euros (Rs 59.85 lakh) in rent owed and expenses, and green lit their furniture to be seized.

The couple has been living in the the 350-sqm apartment on the posh 16th arrondissement since 1 January 2017 against a monthly rent of 6,054 euros (Rs 4.6 lakh).

The couple’s lawyer said that the couple is facing "temporary financial difficulties", and drew the court’s attention to the “irregular” nature of Sherawat’s work. But according to the owner, they never paid the rent, making only a single payment of 2,715 euros (Rs 2.06 lakh).

The landlord’s lawyer had earlier pointed out that the couple can easily afford the rent. "We are talking about 46 million euros in revenue and a fortune of 140 million. We are far from the tenant in difficulty," he said.

The couple may appeal the eviction order. They cannot be thrown out before March 31, when a moratorium on wintertime evictions expires.
