In March, Salman Khan confirmed that he will be collaborating with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Inshallah, which would also star Alia Bhatt. The film would have been the first time the actor and Black director were reuniting after 1999’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

While the film was scheduled to hit theatres on Eid 2020, fans will now have to wait longer. Bhansali has confirmed that Inshallah has been shelved. His production house issued a statement on Twitter that read, “Bhansali Productions has decided to not go ahead with In-shaa-Allah for now. Further announcement will be out soon... God willing.”

Salman Khan had earlier taken to Twitter to say that the movie release has been postponed. “The film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali is pushed but I will still see you all on Eid, 2020. Insha-Allah!!”, the actor wrote.

While we await word on the fate of Inshallah from Salman and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Times of India has quoted a source as saying that both felt the film would have been better suited to later release date rather than Eid 2020. They also hinted possible reservations Salman had with the story. Bhansali reportedly only narrated the first half of the film to him but the actor was keen to know how the rest of it, especially the climax, would play out.

Earlier, Pinkvilla had reported that Inshallah will be shot at real-life locations, unlike the last few of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period films which were shot at large scale sets. Inshallah isn’t a war or a period film, but a romantic saga between a 40-plus businessman played by Salman Khan and a young aspiring actor, portrayed by Alia Bhatt. The director’s last three ventures were Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, all of which required lavish sets and a grand scale shoot.

The unusual pairing of Salman and Alia attracted a lot of eyeballs, but there is a reason behind the same. The story is of a 40-plus businessman who is carefree and not as serious about his life as men his age would be. His father tells him that he will give him all his wealth only if he falls in love and changes his lifestyle. Salman gets Alia, who plays an aspiring actress, to fool his father. They fake a relationship but in the course of doing so, how they actually fall in love with each other and how their world collides is what the film is all about.
