For a couple that comprises two of the top names in Bollywood, one of whom happens to be a man who has frequently made headlines for his outrageous outfits and over the top antics, the #DeepVeer shaadi has been refreshingly drama-free.

Since they started dating six years ago, Deepika and Ranveer have mostly kept mum about their relationship, though their PDA on social media spoke volumes. And when the time came to disclose their upcoming wedding, the couple simply put out pictures of a traditional white and gold wedding invite on social media by way of an announcement.

The two seem to have managed to hit that sweet spot that lies between indulging fans who have desperately been shipping them and enjoying a significant milestone in their relationship away from the judgemental glare of the media and (thanks to social media) the world at large.

The couple left for their destination wedding in Italy in a decidedly filmy manner. Ranveer stepped out of his car at Mumbai airport in a white bandhgala and Deepika wore a matching white outfit. Both waved to fans grinning giddily and happily paused for photo-ops before their flight. There was even a boombox involved.

But that was the last glimpse we’ve had of the couple whose wedding is currently underway at Lake Como in Italy.

Security is tight in the areas surrounding the villas where the ceremonies are taking place. Attendees are being made to wear special wristbands and a strict no photo policy has been imposed. Singer Harshdeep Kaur was even requested to delete a photo she had posted of herself and her husband by the lake.

Security boats have been patrolling the periphery of the venue and rental companies have strict instructions not to lease boats to anyone to keep away prying paps. Starved of any sort of photographs or footage from the wedding, the media has mostly resorted to revealing banal details accompanied by ‘representative’ photographs of the couple that sneakily look shaadi-like but are from previous appearances at parties or events.

After their first ceremony on 14 November, a few photos of the wedding guests surfaced along with grainy footage. But they hardly reveal anything and have been terribly unsatisfying. Word is that the couple will put out pictures on their own terms on the evening of 15 November post their second Sindhi-style ceremony.

This #FOMO has compelled fans, including Union Minister Smriti Irani (and us as well), to take to social media and plead to be put out of their misery and has spawned several memes.

Well played, guys. Well played.
