Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first choice; for Padmaavat and Bajirao Mastani. While both the roles eventually fell in Deepika Padukone’s lap and became box-office hits, it was not how the filmmaker had envisioned it.
In an interview with SpotboyE, Aishwarya talks about wanting to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali once again.
He (Bhansali) didn’t get the Bajirao for me. He wanted me to do Padmaavat, but could not get the Khilji for me, at the casting time. So, that’s how it didn’t happen.Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
She also added, “So, at the end of the day, you need to see the casting. If the casting is not happening, then sometimes, it doesn’t come together. The intention is always there to work together, but it didn’t happen. We both loved working with each other, so let’s see, whenever it is meant to be.”
As per reports, Bhansali had wanted to cast Aishwarya with Salman Khan in Bajirao Mastani but it did not work out.
Aishwarya has worked with Bhansali in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas.
