The launch of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film Zero coincided with the Badshah’s birthday. The trailer was revealed at a special event at IMAX Wadala in Mumbai, which was attended by SRK, co-stars Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, and director Aanand L Rai.
Most of the guests who were invited got quite fidgety owing to some delays. But the moment Khan arrived, the atmosphere quickly brightened and the crowd sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him.
Speaking about the film Shah Rukh said,
The film has been directed by Aanand L Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma. Shah Rukh was all praises for Rai.
Aanand said that he wanted to strip me of my strengths, and kudos to him for being able to pull this off.Shah Rukh Khan
In the film, Shah Rukh plays Bauaa, a small man with big dreams. Anushka Sharma essays a woman with cerebral palsy and Katrina Kaif an actor who is struggling with alcoholism. Speaking of her character Katrina said,
I play an actor in the film but I am nothing like that in my real life. I’m quite balanced and well-behaved in my personal life.Katrina Kaif
Acknowledging the effort it took to portray a differently-abled character, Anushka said,
On some days, I felt like I just couldn’t do it, because it was just too hard. I’ve never felt this nervous about a character on set, honestly. But Aanand Rai is so relaxed and calm and that it made it easy for me. Also, a film reflects the kind of people who worked on it and everyone worked with so much passion on this film.Anushka Sharma
The feeling of ownership and respect for the people who worked on the film was visible as each member of the crew was introduced to the audience.
The three actors will be seen together on screen after six years, commenting on which Katrina said,
Shah Rukh also shared an anecdote from the first time he met Rai.
The first time we met for a meeting, he asked, ‘Do you have gol gappas?’ I said no. Then he said, “Sev puri? Pakodas?” I said no again. So he said, ‘then let’s do the meeting at my office next time.’Shah Rukh Khan
Aanand L Rai concluded the event by saying,
Shah Rukh’s character in the film is completely unlike me in real life, and that was my biggest impetus to make the film.Aanand L Rai
