Uri released on 11 January and the movie’s success is creating buzz all over. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie got a “flying start” at the box office. The military drama earned Rs 8.20 crore on its first day and is expected to do well in the coming days. Director Aditya Dhar attempted a recreation of what, perhaps, transpired on the fateful night of 29 September when Indians carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan.

The Quint caught up with Yami Gautam, Vicky Kaushal and Mohit Raina after the release of the film to learn more about the stars’ reactions to the opening.

It’s a blissful feeling to know that the audience has connected to the essence of the film.
Vicky Kaushal
The Indian Army saw the film and they couldn’t find a single fault. Such a movie on Indian Army has not been made so far in Bollywood.
Yami Gautam
If I look back right now, I have waited quite a long time for this moment and it’s finally come and it’s here in flying colours. I couldn’t have asked for more.

The 138-minute film is neatly divided into four parts. It starts a year before the operation, at Manipur’s Chandel district, where an army truck is ambushed, and concludes with the euphoric chants of ‘Jai Hind’ after the mission is accomplished.

‘Uri’ brings the blood of cross-border tension to a boil but avoids a spillover. There is a rush of patriotism but it is curbed and never allowed to spill over in a gush of irrepressible jingoism.
