Unlike several other big ticket films of 2018 that failed to make much of a splash at the box office despite wielding star power, Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan’s Simmba has had a roaring premiere and continues to break new ground well into the second week of release.
Taking strides towards the Rs 200 Cr club, the film emerges as the third highest grosser of 2018 after Sanju and Padmaavat.
The film’s collections stood at Rs 159.83 Cr at the end of the second week.
Rohit Shetty’s action drama made Rs 11 crore on Thursday 3 January, raising its domestic total up to a whopping Rs 150 crore. That makes Simmba 2018’s second biggest opening week right after Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju.
The trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Friday, “ #Simmba roars and scores at the BO... Crosses ₹ 150 cr mark in Week 1... Glowing word of mouth has converted into footfalls... Fri 20.72 cr, Sat 23.33 cr, Sun 31.06 cr, Mon 21.24 cr, Tue 28.19 cr, Wed 14.49 cr, Thu 11.78 cr. Total: ₹ 150.81 cr. India biz. SUPER HIT.”
Ranveer will next be seen in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy opposite Alia Bhatt. The film releases on 14 February.
