Speaking at the Express Adda in Mumbai on Tuesday, actor Saif Ali Khan said that people are overreacting when they talk about intolerance now, and that it has been happening in India for a long time. The actor opined that there was nothing new about it, but because of social media, it is just all the more easier to hear the voices that are intolerant.

The actor also commented about India turning more right wing when quizzed about it. While agreeing that “everything is becoming a little more right wing”, Saif added that it’s not just happening in India but all over the world.

The national award winner also put forward his views on the ‘award wapsi’ protests that some filmmakers and artistes took up as a way of showing their dissent against the government.

People have been saying that I should give my award back but I don’t agree with that. If someone is unhappy with the institution and wants to return his or her award, it’s great. Maybe it was a publicity thing… I honestly don’t know.
