The much-awaited Kalank had all of us waiting with bated breath, and it sure was a visual treat. While Twitter may have roasted the film by calling it predictable and long, the box office collection on the first day clearly shows that the movie went down really well with the audience. Kalank secured the highest opening of 2019 by by collecting Rs.21.60 crore, tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
"Kalank starts with a bang... Emerges biggest opener of 2019 so far... Cineplexes terrific... Impressive cast and hype plus massive screen count (4,000) and Mahavir Jayanti holiday have contributed to a big total... Wednesday India business is Rs. 21.60 crore," he posted. Taran Adarsh also confirmed that this is the highest opening for a film starring Varun Dhawan or Alia Bhatt.
Recently, The Quint had reported that despite the IPL and elections, Kalank’s box office numbers won’t be hampered. Movie Business Analyst Atul Mohan told The Quint that, in fact, Karan Johar has planned the release date well. “ The release has been planned keeping in mind the partial holiday of Mahavir Jayanti (17 April) and Good Friday (19 April). The opening will be huge undoubtedly. The biggest of 2019. It should be around Rs20-25 crore on opening day,” predicts Mohan.
