Jio MAMI 2019 opened with the ‘Movie Mela’ on 13 October. Celebrities and filmmakers from the Hindi film industry graced the occasion. Rajeev Masand and Anupama Chopra kickstarted the event with a conversation with Deepika Padukone where they dissected her top five performances from among the 25 movies that she has done in the past decade.
The final event had Karan Johar in conversation with Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor. This was also the first time Karan was interviewing Alia and Kareena together and it was nothing but a blast.
The two also spoke about the choices of the films that they have chosen over the years.
There were many brave actors in the industry. And now we have spectacular actors in the industry. I would say that Alia is this generation’s best artiste. She is fearless. To take Udta Punjab was great.Kareena Kapoor, Actor
Alia, for her part, said that her journey as an actor began with Imtiaz Ali-directed Highway. She also added that she wanted to do a film in the comedy genre.
I wanted to be as versatile as possible. It’s easier to make a good film but it’s difficult to make a hit film. I want to do comedy which I have not done. I am hoping to do more films close to home.Alia Bhatt, Actor

A Quick Ten With Kareena & Alia
A movie experience you can never erase from your memory?
Kareena: I would say it’s a film I did called Tashan in 2007. I think it’s a cool film and I know it didn’t do well but the process was amazing. Process was amazing because of two things - I looked super hot and the other is because I fell in love with my super hot husband.
Alia: Okay this is going to sound really cheesy but Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. I was watching the film and then I went and cut my hair like Kajol. So that experience I couldn’t erase because I cut my hair. So it was very visible.
A film in Indian cinema you wish you had done?
Kareena: In Indian cinema?
Alia: It’s a tough one. Errrr....Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Kareena: Okay, Kal Ho Na Ho. See? It was a good movie.
The sexiest movie star of Indian cinema is?
Kareena: I am going to be cheesy and say...you know who it is. There’s only one Mr Khan.
Alia: Hrithik Roshan.
Kareena: She’s clearly seen War. No, I think my husband is the only sexiest man.
An all time beauty of Indian cinema?
Kareena: I think there are so many. My mother-in-law for one.
Karan: So basically all your answers are from your own family.
Kareena: It’s a good looking family, sorry but true.
Alia: I would say Madhubala.
An actor of Indian cinema whose the benchmark of craft?
Kareena: Umm... Aamir Khan.
Alia: I would say Tabu.
According to you an overrated film and an underrated film?
Kareena: I don’t know!
An actor that you have felt threatened by?
Kareena: I don’t know. I don’t think I have ever felt threatened by anyone but yeah if I did stand in the frame with Alia, may be I would.
Alia: Threatened I feel is a little bit of a heavy word. I felt intimidated by Ranveer Singh. Not when I work with him but I feel like he’s just a chameleon. He just slips into any mould, any character and just his personality also.
A director whose legacy is irreplaceable?
Karan: Of Course, Raj Kapoor because we are only mentioning family.
Kareena: How did you know? I swear I was going to say that!
Alia: I would name two people. Yash Chopra and David Dhawan.
One piece of advice you would give to new talent?
Kareena: Too much advice I have given. I am not giving anymore advice. Show your talent and move on.
Alia: the only advice I would give is what my mother gave me and I think it makes sense in every way. One most important thing that an actor needs to have is patience. Patience is something you can hold on to for the rest of your life.
