As India commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre - the incident that witnessed the wrath of British forces as they brutally opened fire and killed hundreds of innocent Indians, members of the film industry too are paying their tributes. Bollywood personalities like Amitabh BAchchan, Sunny Deol, Bhumi Pednekar and Madhur Bhandarkar have taken to Twitter to openly express their grief over the tragedy that transpired years ago.
Remembering the horrifying incident, Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, “ #JallianwalaBaghCentenary .. in remembrance of the merciless killings by the British .. and the resolve to rid India of British Colonial rule”
Bollywood actor Sunny Deol posted a photo of Jallianwala Bagh and wrote “tribute to martyrs.”
“This definitely was one of the most heart wrenching dark moments in our history.May we always remember the courage & sacrifice of our freedom fighters.May we get inspired by their valour & contribute into making our country stronger”, wrote Lust Stories actor Bhumi Pednekar.
Actor turned Politician Kirron Kher reached out to the “innocent souls who were martyred, mercielessly, for taking a stand for our country’s independence this day, 100 years ago.”
“#JallianwalaBaghCentenary is a reminder that even the worst of massacres couldn't dampen the spirit of our countrymen”, she wrote.
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar took a moment to remember the lives lost, “Let’s pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for independence movement on 13th April 1919 at #Amritsar.”
14 April 2019 marks hundred years since British forces led by Brigadier General Reginald Dyer opened fire on hundreds of unarmed, innocent Indians who were merely protesting sans violence against the oppressive Rowlatt Act enforced by the British government. The incident took place at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar.
