Sidharth Malhotra’s next film Marjaavaan hits the theatres on 15 November and there’s a lot riding on the film for the actor.

Sidharth has been going through a dry spell at the box office, with no solo box office hit since 2014’s Ek Villain. His last hits, Brothers (2015) and Kapoor & Sons (2016), were multi-starrers. Will Marjaavaan be able to turn things around for Sidharth?

Trade is positive that the massy trailer and over-the-top dialogues should appeal to a section of the audience. Movie business analyst Atul Mohan says the film could get Sidharth’s highest opening in , “Buzz is strong in mass centres. We could be looking at around Rs 6 to 7 crore on day one.”

Sidharth’s last five films have failed to make any kind of mark at the box office. Jabariya Jodi, Aiyaary, A Gentleman and Baar Baar Dekho flopped, while Ittefaq just about managed to earn back its investment.

“His films haven’t opened to Rs 6 crore in his last 6 films! Sidharth’s last film (Jabariya Jodi) opened at 2.5,” says Atul.

But Atul says that Marjaavaan, an ‘80s style revenge-based love story, has a great chance to do well, unless of course the word of mouth is really poor.

“What maybe working for this film is its music, Milap Zaveri as director and the massy dialogues. If content is good and liked it should definitely pick up on the weekend,” he says.

The budget of Marjaavaan is quite high at around Rs 70 crore, and will have to keep up its momentum post opening weekend to become a hit. It will release in 2,250 screens approximately.

Marjaavaan also stars Riteish Deshmukh as the antagonist and Tara Sutara. It is directed by Milap Zaveri, who scored a hit with his last film, Satyamev Jayate.
