With election season around the corner, patriotism seems to be the theme for Bollywood this year. Uri: The Surgical Strike and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi released in January and titles such as Akshay Kumar’s Kesari, Salman Khan’s Bharat and Batla House are set to hit theatres shortly.

Huffington Post reports that the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has received a surge of applications to register so called ‘patriotic’ titles following the recent terrorist attack in Pulwama, which killed 40 CRPF personnel, and the capture of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman after the pilot’s plane crashed on Pakistani soil following aerial skirmishes between India and Pakistan.

The publication cited a source from the IMPPA as claiming that Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment (the production house behind titles such as Airlift) and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series were among those who applied for titles related to the Pulwama attack and Balakot air strikes. The report also mentions Pulwama, Pulwama: The Surgical Strike, War Room, Hindustan Hamara Hai, ATS - One Man Show as some of titles registered according to film trade magazine Complete Cinema.

A production house needs to submit a form to register a particular title, along with a few alternatives, and pay a sum of Rs 250 plus 18 percent GST.
