This seems to be the year of biopics, historicals and Akshay Kumar. Akshay Kumar’s PadMan based on the social entrepreneur Arunachalam Murugunantham is set to release on 9 February and the teaser of the film Gold is already here. The words BLOCKBUSTER seem to be smeared across this sports film, a genre that is known to reap rich rewards at the box office.
The patriotic fervour is strong in the teaser of this film, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. The film is said to be loosely based on the life of Balbir Singh, who was a part of the team that won the first Olympic medal for India as a free nation in 1948. Gold is slated to hit theatres on August 15, 2018.
Helmed by Reema Kagti, the film also marks the debut of Naagin fame Mouni Roy.
Biz analyst, Taran Adarsh shared the teaser on Twitter.
The team wrapped up the shoot in December last year. Gold also features Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Sunny Kaushal in pivotal roles.
