Super-keen to do the Hindi remake of 2017’s most popular Telugu film Arjun Reddy, Arjun Kapoor made sure the project came his way, even if it meant demolishing the competition along the way.
According to sources in the know, Shahid Kapoor was finalised for the role of the out-of-control medical surgeon who drinks and drugs himself senseless after he loses the girl he loves.
But then Arjun Kapoor got wind of the project and plunged into getting the part, even if it meant putting his money where his heart was.
Says a source close to the film’s producer-director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, “To be able to play the lead, Arjun Kapoor has agreed to co-produce the Hindi remake ofArjun Reddy, which incidentally is likely to be re-titled Arjun Kapoor in Hindi, as the hero will now be Punjabi instead of a Telugu.”
Sandeep Vanga who was not familiar with Arjun Kapoor’s work was pursued and persuaded by Arjun’s father Boney Kapoor.
Says Vanga uncertainly, “Yes, Mr Boney Kapoor did come to meet me. But I’ve already committed myself to the Hindi remake with Shahid Kapoor. So I don’t know…”
One admires Arjun Kapoor’s dedication and tenacity. But one also wonders how this move to get Arjun Reddy in his kitty at any cost would influence Arjun’s rapport with Shahid Kapoor?
We’ll have to wait and watch.
