Exclusive: Kamal Haasan, Shruti to Play Father-Daughter On-screen
In what could be considered a very interesting combination to look forward to, legendary actor Kamal Haasan will team up with his daughter Shruti for the first time. This yet-untitled Tamil project will feature Kamal and Shruti as father and daughter. While reports have been doing the rounds that the duo has joined hands for Kamal’s upcoming Tamil comedy Appa Amma Vilayattu, a source close to Haasan informs us otherwise.
“Kamal and Shruti are going to team up but it will be for a new project. Contrary to some media reports, it won’t be for Appa Amma Vilayattu. Kamal and Shruti will be working together in the former’s script which he’s been planning to work on for many years. The project will be directed by veteran Malayalam director TK Rajeev Kumar, who was originally supposed to direct Appa Amma Vilayattu, a multilingual project,” a source said.
What’s even more interesting is that Kamal is in talks with maestro Ilayaraja, and if everything goes as planned, the renowned composer will lend his tunes for the project. “Talks have been going on with Ilayaraja for the last few months. An official announcement is expected to be made in a couple of weeks,” the source added. If the collaboration materialises, Kamal and Ilayaraja will be reuniting after a decade since Mumbai Express (2005).
The film will be completely shot in the U.S., and Kamal is currently abroad finalising the locations. In a week’s time, the rest of the cast and crew will also be finalized. The shooting is expected to start from February or March. Shruti, over the course of next few months, is expected to juggle between the sets of this project, Singam 3 and Majnu, the Telugu remake of Malayalam blockbuster Premam.
