PM Modi Meets Murli Manohar Joshi, Advani After BJP’s Historic Win

PM Modi, in a series of tweets, paid respect to the party veterans and lauded them for their contributions.

A day after the BJP-led NDA won massive majority in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah on Friday, 24 May, called on party veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi to celebrate the massive mandate.

Following the meeting, PM Modi, in a series of tweets, paid respect to the veterans and lauded them for their contributions towards the party.

"Called on respected Advani Ji. The BJP's successes today are possible because greats like him spent decades building the party and providing a fresh ideological narrative to the people," Modi tweeted.

In another tweet, PM Modi said, "Dr Murli Manohar Joshi is a scholar and intellectual par excellence. His contribution towards improving Indian education is remarkable. He has always worked to strengthen the BJP and mentor several Karyakartas, including me".

As the counting in few constituencies continues, the latest trend project that BJP has secured 300 Lok Sabha seats while its alliance has bagged 343 seats.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Joshi congratulated Shah and Modi for the “unprecedented victory in the elections”

"We sow the seeds and laid the foundations of the party. Now, they (Modi and Shah) are taking it forward,” he said.

Also, reacting to the mandate, Advani said, "Heartiest congratulations to Narendrabhai Modi for steering the BJP towards this unprecedented victory in the elections."

Joshi, Advani Sidelined in 2019 Lok Sabha Polls

Earlier in March, Joshi stirred up a controversy after he revealed that he was asked by the party to not contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Joshi was a member of Parliament from the Kanpur constituency in Uttar Pradesh. From 2009 to 2014, he was an MP from the Varanasi constituency – the incumbent constituency of Modi.

Similarly, Advani was also not fielded from the Gandhinagar seat – a seat he had won six times in the past. Instead, the BJP announced the candidature of Amit Shah from the seat who on Thursday won it by a margin of over four lakh votes.
