Police forces in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh area have detained at least 12 people on Thursday, 6 December, after clashes broke out during the "Shaurya Diwas" procession, NDTV reported.

‘Shaurya Diwas’ celebration was organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and its youth-wing, Bajrang Dal across the country on Thursday to commemorate the 26-year anniversary of Babri mosque demolition.

During the clash, the police told NDTV that at least six motorcycles were burnt and several cars parked on the street were damaged during the procession.

Other than detaining 12 people, the police had banned any large gathering in the area to prevent a flare-up. The district commissioner and a senior police officer came to the area to directly control the situation, following the clashes.

‘Shaurya Diwas’ in UP Passed Off Peacefully

Meanwhile, ‘Shaurya Diwas’ passed off peacefully in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday with Hindu and Muslim organisations observing the day as "shaurya diwas" and "black day" respectively, PTI reported.

While the VHP and Bajrang Dal burst crackers and resolved to build a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya, Muslim outfits held protests to express grief over the incident.

In Ayodhya, Mahant Suresh Das of Digambar Akhara said Ram temple is the biggest issue in front of the country.

Muslim organisations observed the day as 'Yaum E Gham' (day of sorrow) and a protest demonstration was held in Lucknow, Convenor of Babri Masjid Action Committee, Zafaryab Jilani said.
