NDA candidate from Kerala's Wayanad seat, Tushar Vellappally has written to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala, asking him to review Rahul Gandhi's nomination. According to him, Gandhi is carrying a dual passport and is not a citizen of India.

“It’s understood that Rahul Gandhi is having passport of a foreign country also. He didn’t disclose this in the nomination filed or in the affidavit,” Vellappally alleged in his complaint, reported ANI.

He added that the CEO should check for the validity of Gandhi's nomination. "I request you to review the acceptance of nomination of Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad constituency to check for validity and reject the application," he wrote.

Gandhi is contesting from the Wayanad seat, apart from the traditional family bastion of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

This comes after an Independent candidate raised questions over the validity of Gandhi's candidature from Amethi over issues of citizenship.

The BJP on Saturday, 21 April had also sought to corner Congress President Rahul Gandhi over alleged discrepancies in his election affidavit involving his citizenship and educational qualification, reported IANS.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, BJP spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao said, "Today the whole nation is stunned that Rahul Gandhi and his lawyer Rahul Kaushik were unable to explain some details of Gandhi's nomination papers sought by Amethi's returning officer."

His remarks came soon after an independent candidate, Dhruv Lal, approached the court in Amethi and sought clarification on Gandhi's educational qualification and citizenship, reported IANS.

Rao said Gandhi’s representative sought time for the answers and clarifications, and that he has been given time till 22 April, 10:30 am.
