Notice Issued to Maneka Gandhi for Communal Remarks
Union Minister Maneka Gandhi was on Friday, 12 April, issued a show-cause notice after she kicked off a major controversy when she told the Muslims in Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh to vote for her if they wanted her to get their work done after she wins from the constituency.
According to sources, Sultanpur's District Magistrate issued the notice after the Election Commission took cognisance of the matter and asked Gandhi to explain her remarks.
Addressing an election rally in Turab Khani village, the BJP leader said that she would not give jobs to Muslims if they did not vote for her. She also said that she would not like it if she won without the support of the Muslims.
"Irresponsible, Useless": Chandrababu Naidu Slams Election Commission Over EVMs
Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu has accused the Election Commission of making the poll process a "big farce".
Addressing a press conference a day after polling for 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats was completed, the Chief Minister spit fire on the Election Commission over the manner in which the election process was conducted, alleging that 30-40 per cent Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs in the state either malfunctioned or did not function.
"This is a very big farce. Disaster for the nation. I can say it is a big confusion, big mess, big farce," Mr Naidu said in a restless tone.
He claimed that as per "official information" 4,583 EVMs got stuck in the state and noted that it was a "major crisis."
69.43% Voter Turnout Recorded For First Phase Of Lok Sabha Elections
A voter turnout of 69.43 percent was recorded in phase one of Lok Sabha elections held Thursday, the Election Commission said Friday, 12 April night.
A total of 91 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 18 states and two Union territories had gone for polls in the first phase.
Over 14.20 crore people were eligible to vote to decide the fate of 1,279 candidates in the 91 constituencies.
Rahul Gandhi Got M.Phil Without Masters Degree, Alleges Jaitley
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday attacked the Opposition in a blog written by him. He said that the Opposition is in a disarray after the first phase of voting and that its campaign is a “rent a cause one”.
He also attacked the Congress party for raising the issue of Smriti Irani’s educational qualification, alleging that the party’s President Rahul Gandhi got an M.Phil without a Masters degree.
Reflecting upon the signature campaigns against the BJP government, he termed them as ‘desperate memorandums’.
“Many of those whose signature appear have not consented to their signatures been put,” Jaitley said.
All Opposition Leaders Dreaming of PM Post: Modi
Speaking at an election rally in Tamil Nadu’s Theni, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Rahul Gandhi is not acceptable as a PM candidate to other alliance leaders as all of them aspire for the post, reported news agency ANI.
“Some days ago DMK Supremo projected the 'naamdar' as the PM candidate when no one was ready to accept it, not even their 'mahamilawati' friends. Why? Because they all are in the line to be PM and dream of the post,” he said.
Despite past "bitterness," the Congress and DMK have joined hands, he said and recalled that the national party had "humiliated" the southern ally earlier, apparently referring to the dismissal of the DMK government in the past.

83.12 percent Polling Recorded in Lone LS Seat in Nagaland
An overall 83.12 percent voter turnout was recorded in Nagaland for the lone Lok Sabha constituency, on 11 April, a senior election official said on Saturday.
Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha said, altogether 10,02,670 electorate out of 12,06,287 general voters exercised their franchise for the Lok Sabha polls in the state.
