Babbar, Savitri Phule & Priya Dutt in Cong’s 2nd List for LS Polls
Former Congress leader Priya Dutt and veteran leader Sushil Kumar Shinde will contest from Maharashtra.
The Congress party on Wednesday, 13 March, released the second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, in which 21 names found place. The list has five names from Maharashtra and the rest from Uttar Pradesh.
While Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Raj Babbar will contest from Moradabad, former BJP MP Savitri Phule will contest from the state’s Bahraich seat.
Former Congress leader Priya Dutt made a comeback and will contest from Mumbai North-Central.
Former BJP MP Nana Patole, will now contest on Congress ticket from Nagpur, while former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shilde will contest from Solapur.
Earlier on 7 March, the Congress released its first list, stating that Rahul Gandhi will fight the elections from Amethi, while Sonia Gandhi would be contesting from Raebareli.
The announcement put an end to speculation that Sonia may not contest in the upcoming polls due to health reasons and the party's newly appointed general secretary in-charge (East UP) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may be fielded from her constituency.
Vadra will not be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, NDTV reported, citing sources, on Wednesday, 13 March.
"In order to concentrate on the campaign and her new responsibility as general secretary, she (Priyanka Gandhi) will not be contesting in this election," NDTV quoted sources as saying.
The first list had 11 names from Uttar Pradesh and four from Gujarat.
