SKM Wins Sikkim Assembly Elections With 17 Seats
The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha won the Sikkim Assembly elections, with 17 seats out of total 32 assembly constituency seats. Sikkim Democratic Front won 15 seats.
Counting Completed for 510 Seats So Far
According to the official website of the Election Commission, at 7.20 am, the counting process has been completed for 510 seats. BJP has emerged as the single largest party with 290 seats, so far. It is leading on a further 13 seats.
Congress has bagged 50 seats thus far, and is leading on two more. DMK is the third largest party with 22 seats, while it is currently leading on one more.
No Case of EVM-VVPAT Mismatch Reported So Far
As of early Friday, 24 May, no case of EVM - VVPAT mismatch was reported, news agency PTI reported quoting the Election Commission.
At 1 am, 12,480, of the nearly 20,600 paper trail machines were matched. There has been just one case which, the EC said appears to be a “manual error”.
Mayawati Raises Doubts Over EVMs After Defeat
Terming the Lok Sabha poll results as unprecedented, BSP president Mayawati again raised doubts over EVMs on Thursday.
Pointing fingers towards EVMs, she said, "Several shortcomings of conducting elections through EVMs have come to our notice and there is opposition to EVMs all over the country." She added that after this results, whatever confidence people had in EVMs will disappear.
"When all parties are demanding that elections be conducted through ballot papers, why are the BJP and the Election Commission (EC) not agreeing to it? This means there is something wrong somewhere," the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said.

BJP Secures Above 300 Seats
With the counting process still going on, BJP has now won 302 seats. The party is leading in one more seat and is expected to finish its tally at 303.
Bureaucrats Reach Jagan Reddy's Residence
Senior bureaucrats in Andhra Pradesh have reached YSRCP Chief Jaganmohan Reddy's residence in Amaravati, reported news agency ANI.
Reddy will take oath as the Chief Minister on 30 May.
Owaisi Slams Congress for BJP's Victory
Commenting on the election results, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi said, “BJP's onslaught was stopped wherever there were regional parties. BJP won 177 out of 300 where Congress was against them, after this result if someone says that they alone have the right to rule the country or defeat BJP, I don't think it has any value,” reported news agency ANI.

BJP Sees Wider Victory Margins on 24 Guj LS Seats Than in 2014
The victory margins of all but two candidates of the BJP increased significantly in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls when compared to the 2014 polls, as per data provided on the Election Commission website.
Like in 2014, the ruling BJP swept all 26 seats in Gujarat, the highest margin being that in Navsari where its candidate CR Patil won by 6.89 lakh votes against the Congress' Dharmesh Patel.
Patil's victory margin in the 2014 polls was 5.58 lakhs.
As many as fifteen candidates won by a margin of over 3 lakh votes in the 2019 election compared to six in the 2014 general polls.
