Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav has tested positive for novel coronavirus, the party said on Wednesday, 14 October.

"Doctors are monitoring the condition of Samajwadi Party's Mulayam Singh Yadav after his corona test report came out to be positive. Right now, he doesn't have any symptoms of corona," the Samajwadi Party said in a tweet on Wednesday.

Apart from Yadav (80), many other political leaders have contracted the highly-contagious virus over the last few months, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa, among others.

On Wednesday, India reported 63,509 new cases of coronavirus, taking the tally in the country to 72,39,390. The death toll stands at 1,10,586. Uttar Pradesh is the fifth worst-affected state in the country in terms of the number of cases, having recorded over 4.42 lakh infections so far.
