Bengaluru Lockdown: What’s Open, What’s Closed & Where to Go

Nine districts in Karnataka where patients were tested positive for COVID-19 virus will be under lockdown until 31 March, said a statement from the office of the chief minister. As per the statement, the districts under lockdown are:

  1. Bengaluru Urban
  2. Bengaluru Rural
  3. Mangaluru
  4. Kalaburagi
  5. Kodagu
  6. Chikaballapura
  7. Mysuru
  8. Belagavi
  9. Dharwad
In these nine districts, all commercial activity will be stopped, and only essential services will be operating.

What Are the Essential Services?

  1. Food rations
  2. Milk
  3. Meat
  4. Fish
  5. Vegetables
  6. Fruits
  7. Grocery stores
  8. Banks
  9. ATMs
  10. Telecom
  11. Home delivery of food
  12. Take away from hotels
  13. Transport of goods
  14. Government offices
  15. Panchayats
  16. Postal services
  17. Electricity Services
  18. Water Services
  19. Munnicipal services
  20. Police and fire services
  21. Canteen services provided by government

What Will Be Closed?

  1. All shops, commercial establishments, godowns dealing with non-essential services, except those mentioned above.
  2. Industrial establishments in the above districts that employ large number of workers are instructed to deploy them in half numbers on alternate days.
  3. All IT and biotech companies will be work-from-home except for where it is not feasible.
  4. All air-conditioned bus services of Road Transport Corporation and private operators will be stopped.
  5. All inter-state, inter-district bus services will be stopped.

Bommai also added there will not be any public transport on Monday, 23 March.

Non-Bengaluru Residents to Be Quarantined by Govt

Since Bengaluru city is under lockdown, the Karnataka Health Department has announced that non-Bengaluru residents in city who had been asked to go on home quarantine, will be taken in by the government.

“All persons who are in home quarantine and are not residents of Bengaluru but are staying in hotels/lodges/hostels etc will be taken to mass quarantine centres of Department of Health and Family Welfare. This is to help them as transport facilities are also stopped. Media is requested to bring it to everyone’s notice.”
