Assam Elections: BJP Coming Back to Power, Alliance Wins 75 Seats

The BJP is all set to come back to power in Assam, with the party and its alliance partners winning 75 out of the 126 seats in the state on Sunday, 2 May. While the saffron party won 60 seats on its own, the Asom Gana Parishad won nine and United People's Party Liberal six.

The Congress-led alliance, meanwhile, won 50 seats, including 29 by the Congress, 16 by AIUDF, four by Bodoland Peoples Front and one by CPI(M).

Current Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma won from the Majuli and Jalukbari constituencies respectively.
