Dear India,

I love you. Ever since I was a child, I have been hearing the popular slogan, “East or west, India is the best,” and I have always believed in it.

I disagreed with my friends and colleagues when they discussed how they wanted to leave India for a better job opportunity and standard of living. I always said, “I was born here, and I will live here till I die.”

I never wished to be a second-class citizen in any other country when I can stay in India and earn a living in my own country. But as you grow up, things tend to get complicated. That is when you realise that as a kid, everything was so simple and beautiful. But it’s not the case when you get old. I was at the receiving end of all kinds of hate comments; like people assuming that I would support Pakistan in a cricket match.

It’s painful to hear such comments. It’s just not fair India. And the current situation isn’t helping us either. People are getting killed in the name of religion. Imagine, I am scared to travel in my own country.

What went wrong India?

Was my love for you not strong enough? But don’t worry. No matter what people say, I love you so much, and I will never leave you. I will continue to work to make my surroundings better. This love for my country will never end, and the bond will not be damaged because of a few people.

I am proud to be an Indian, I know there are flaws in every nation, but we will work hard to remove those, and will make you perfect in every aspect.

Love,
Mohammed Arshad
