After winning the first season of Comicstaan, Nishant Suri says the digital comedy reality series helped him realise his potential, and he now wants to work hard to make the most of it. Comicstaan - a 9-episode series judged by India’s top comedians is the hunt for fresh and talented stand-up comedians across the country.

The first season has come to an end and the winner is a comic from New Delhi who left his job to click photos at weddings and do stand-up side by side. He realised his calling was comedy after he was successful at a few open mics. He was famous in the Delhi circuit, until he was selected for Comicstaan.

I have been doing stand-up for 3 years before I came to this show and I had intentionally not put out any videos because I wanted to work on my jokes, so this has been my first exposure to masses in terms of putting out a video and my sets out there. It’s been really amazing and a lot of people are recognising me on the streets and a lot of people are coming for my shows specifically for me and that’s a great feeling.

If you had to pick any other contestant as the winner, who would it be?

For sure, Rahul Dua. He is a good friend and one of the funniest people I know. I think a lot of people expected him to win. Even I was pretty sure that he was going to win it before the finale.

Who was your favourite mentor out of the judges?

Biswa was my favourite because of the energy and the way he followed up on everything we did. He would call us up after the open mics and ask us if the jokes had worked or no. It was nice.
