Video: Sumatran Volcano on the Boil

Mt. Sinabung poses high threat as volcanic activity increases. Nearby villages have been evacuated.

The 2,600-metre (8,530-foot) high volcano in North Sumatra province has sporadically erupted since September 2013 after being dormant for three years. Mount Sinabung is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”.

One week after Indonesia raised the alert status of Sinabung volcano in western Indonesia to the highest level, activity at the volcano remains high.

The increased volcanic activity has forced villagers to evacuate to a temporary shelter at Batu Karang.
