In an attempt to revive age-old traditions in a big way, the Uttarakhand government has embarked on identifying and encouraging traditional ‘pahadi’ or hill games across the state.

Kabaddi, gulli-danda, bagh bakri and thap, which were once quite popular in all the hill and plain districts, are making a come back in the hills. State government is making serious efforts to revive them. Most of these games used to be played in villages and towns, but with the passage of time, popular interest has waned because of a lack of interest in them.
