A day ahead of Yulin’s dog meat festival, dog meat sellers and buyers were seen on the streets waiting for the trade to begin. This festival is taking place despite protests from animal rights group to stop the slaughter.

Thousands of dogs are killed cruelly for their meat every year to celebrate the summer solstice. The tradition of eating dog meat can be traced back to 500 years in countries like China and South Korea.

People across the globe have expressed outrage against this festival on social media. Heart-breaking pictures of dogs ready to be slaughtered are being tweeted with the #stopyulin. 3.8 million people have signed the petition to stop this festival.

After the outcry from various animal rights groups, the government has agreed to stop the festival. However, police were seen guarding the streets where the trade takes place. Dog meat can also be seen on display in various restaurants in Yulin.
